Here we are with Valentine’s Day fast approaching…. do you have plans?  Are you dreaming of a romantic getaway or having a quiet evening at home?  In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, let’s check out some last minute romantic escapes. You may not be able to get to these exact places last minute, but you can use the ideas to find something local maybe. Also, who says you can only be romantic on Valentine’s Day?

There are affordable getaways that can be had in your own town, like a boutique Bed & Breakfast.  We spent our honeymoon night at the C.A.’s House Bed & Breakfast here in Lake Charles, LA.  Besides the cozy suite, we enjoyed being catered to in a private mansion.  It does not have to be your honeymoon to book a night in a private carriage house to remind that special someone how dear they are to you!  We were made pecan praline French toast and got the recipe to bring a cherished memory home.  Sometimes getting out of your element can help you incorporate new traditions and build on your relationship.  These rooms range from $75 -$195/night.

Another way to keep travel costs down and the passion flowing is to check out Romantic packages at your local hotels.  With fresh roses, chilled champagne/wine, and some chocolates in a relaxed environment you are sure to have a romantic evening.  From $130 – $195/night you could enjoy a Jacuzzi suite with your loved one and have a memorable evening to treasure forever.  If you do not see any packages online, call the director of sales and see if they will agree upon a price to provide such extra amenities to your room prior to check in for a sensational surprise.   Here at the Wingate by Wyndham in Sulphur, LA, I do this all the time for various occasions.   Our package includes: fresh flower arrangement, bottle of champagne, gift bag with snacks and popcorn, complimentary movie, chocolates, and sprinkled rose petals on white linen beds.

For those lively couples that like to be entertained on their nights away from the house, a casino might be a fun destination to grab a room.  I know the Isle of Capri just completely renovated their rooms with hot tubs in the bedrooms.  We were just there for a Mardi Gras ball and I was impressed with the atmosphere and never stepped onto the gaming floor.  Casinos have some of the best restaurants to choose from, just make sure you make a reservation as they can get booked fast.  I would have to recommend the L’auberge Casino Resort for a better choice of cuisine and spa/golf packages. Hit the floor for some gaming or check out a live show, enjoy some spa time and then end up in your luxurious room for some alone time.  Packages at the Isle of Capri Casino & Hotel can be found here.

Planning on a proposal this Valentine’s Day?  The Stowe Mountain Lodge, a destination resort, in Vermont has several packages with a proposal coach that guides you through the process.  Can it get any easier and stress free?  Choose between a Winter Wonderland, Sensational Summer Package, or the Pamper Package and do not miss out on anything with the package enhancement options.  Two nights packed full of fun adventures, fine dining and pampering for $1,700.

One Happy Island to be sure!

One Happy Island to be sure!

If money is not an option, then I recommend a tranquil island paradise such as Aruba.   We spent the rest of our honeymoon in Aruba which gave a whole new meaning to “One Happy Island.”  Romance packages here include sunset sails, couples massage and candlelit dinner for two on the beach.  This safe island is so far down south that it is protected from storms and sure to sweep you off your feet.   We rented a jeep and toured the island on our own learning the history as we bonded together in a unique paradise.  This package is around $3,000 to $5,000 for 5 nights and I am sure there are many other options.  We stayed at the Occidental Grand and cannot wait to go back!
